And his beard rocks. Speaking of which... here's two MAYBE 5 minute scribbles I did of him. Gonna do more studies before I actually paint him and the other rev.

Howdy tharr y'all

Hey y'all! So it has been WAY too long since I last posted. So here's some stuff. I've been super busy working, planning shows and helping Greg plan Dr. Sketchy's. The first one went well and the next one is in the works! I'll post more soon. That there is one of my pieces from the Cat Show. Around 14"x17" acrylic on gessoed plywood.

At Studio 364 we have a show this Friday, the Medical Illustration show.
Then, June 1st, we're hosting the Rock Show, complete with awesome music art, pinatas, beer, crazy costumes, and more! I have yet to figure out what I'm painting for that.
This was a quick sketch from the first Dr. Sketchy's. The fabulous Nicole Malone was our model, and she posed amongst taxidermy, bones, and other dead things.
I've been in a rut, which isn't news. But I've been re-teaching myself how to paint nice skin tones by studying the pinups of Elvgren. So, here's one.
And here's another. That's the first one I did. All the notes are because I discovered that Yale offers open online courses for free. So I took one on Epidemics in Western Society since 1600s, which led me to getting the book And The Band Played On by Randy Shilts. It's about the epidemiological beginnings of AIDS and its social/political effects. I'm a couple hundred pages in, and it is damned fascinating. Now I'm taking a course on the Hebrew Bible (aka old testament) and MAN is it good, especially coming from an overly religious area where you were basically beat up if you didn't believe whatever out of context scripture someone was spitting at you.

Anyways, Yale. Highly recommended.
Here's the rest of that spread, with a ball point scribble of Henrik Zetterberg from the Red Wings. Boo, playoffs. And another pinup. All Elvgren's, copied by me for learning purposes.
And here's my other piece from the Cat Show, which I posted previously. This and the other greaser cat piece are up for sale if you're interested. And I have $5 prints of this one. Done by the fine gents at HTB Press.

In the future, looks like I'm designing some posters for the next Dr. Sketchys, possibly some gig posters this summer, and some shirts for Rib Fest. Allons-y!

CAT SHOOOOW

Hello y'all!

Sorry bout lack of posts. Been super super busy with work and life and putting together another gallery show at our space in the Hungerford Building. The theme this time is the Cat Show, and it will be open first Friday, April 6th! aka, the end of this week.

I did two pieces for it, on big ol' pieces of plywood. Here's one of them! I'll post the other after the show. Otherwise, come to Studio 364 this friday at 6 pm and check it all out!!!

PS
If you have cat related work you wanna put in the show, there's still time! This Thursday is the absolute last night I'm taking any art. Just contact me and we'll figure something out!!!!

le sad

so the day i got the keys to my awesome new apartment, i started moving in. as i was leaving for the day, i saw a puppy fall off the third story balcony of the house next to me. I ran over. He'd fallen on his back and broken several ribs and vertebrae. I yelled and yelled for someone as the poor thing was dying on me. I finally went in the house and found people, and much to my disgust, they didn't really seem to care. They had other beautiful dogs that were rather junkyard and violent, like a german shepherd and a rottweiler mix of some sort. This was a bulldog puppy.
Yeah, couldn't shake that image. Ended up drawing it. Poor thing still makes me cry.

it seems every summer an innocent dies in my hands. last summer a bird had hit the window and i held the thing until it expired too. Only makes me more of a bleeding heart, if that's possible.

house across from mine. doodled it on my roof one sunday afternoon.

haven't had much time for art, what with all my free time being spent moving/unpacking. I haven't even made it to my studio in a week!

But I love living downtown. Love it.

Endings, beginnings, yep.

Hey y'all. I graduated! Got a BFA in Illustration with highest honors (3.81 gpa) from RIT! yayyy! and I get to start my new internship very soon. And move into a swag new apartment downtown in a couple weeks. and life... is hectic.. but amazing.

Today i spent the entire day in the Reporter office trying to help pull together the orientation issue. Simon Jones, Cassie Angerosa and her brother (an engineer who learned indesign in seconds) and I are blasting the Beatles and arting to death. We rock.

This ills are for that issue. I know I shouldn't technically post them until they're published, but dammit, that won't be for months, and by that time y'all will have forgotten about 'em. Or hey, early advertising.
This be the cover and a spot ill for something.

today i've busted out three ills in about 7 hours or so, minus breaks. I. am. tired.
ah well, signing a lease tomorrow.

It's been a wild, sad, happy, wonderful, horrible, overall intense ride, RIT. I will miss a lot of people. I hugged my profs before walking the stage and almost cried. Those guys become family after 3 years of creative growth. But since I'm staying here in Roch for a year, I don't feel as sad. I'll see them yet :)

Congrats to all my fellow grads, both under and post! <3

I'll shoot your hat as many times as I wanna

5 minute acrylic doodles make me happy.
watching too many clint eastwood movies... :D

Hello darlings. It's been a wild ride, and it looks like a few curves ahead. All good. I mean, curves are awesome, right? That's my cowboy mural. There was an AK47 painted on the floor, too.
There's Greg's awesome mural.

Anyways, we had The Gun Show. Man, I can't tell you how amazed I am that it happened, and how incredibly happy and grateful I am with its success. I pulled that show together in a week, and would never have been able to do it without the help and support of my friends. Special thanks to Greg Caggiano, who helped me set it all up in his studio space, and Brett Seamans n Lucy Lott for helping me get the ball rollin'. Thanks to everyone who gave me work to show, INCLUDING my professors <3

In other news, looks like I'm stayin in Rochester. Good people, good art scene, and I'll probably be sharing studio space in the Hungerford with the previously mentioned Greg and others. If all works out, we'll be trying to do a show like the Gun Show every month.

I'm happy about it. I love my friends here. I'm looking forward to a summer of painting and good music.

Tomorrow- going to Toronto to see Rammstein for the third effing time. Yeaah.
Then pulling things together for the honors show, class, a commission from the barn I ride at (i helped pull a horse's tooth out... gnarly) and other things.
