Surfin' USA. or just travelin' it.

got to watching the world cup. which got me to looking up world cup players. which was lots of fun. tee hee. oh... surfer dude... and there's a sketch for a potential ill of Mister Rictus from Wanted for a friend of mine. If i'm not too lazy. Which I probably am.

In other news... Got my mum's roommate's (she's a doctor in denver) old Medical Illustration books- 60 lbs worth! And they're breathtaking. Dr. Netter is an AMAZING illustrator.

Aaand... my summer traveling will continue. After the 4th, I'm headed out west to maybe see said friend of my mum in Denver and just generally roadtrip around the southwest. I miss the White Sands and don't remember a lot of things out there from the last time i went out.

Then it's up to Quebec City to see Rammstein and wander around the city... Then it's out to San Diego to see my dad and explore CA. Perhaps up to San Fran. Then back to Rochester. Move to new apartment. Around then- job hunting and running around NYC with a friend. Then... SENIOR YEAR. Good times and lots of hard work ahead. Much more than the bumbling I'm doing currently.

Pedazos

Been reading spanish magazines. And reading a book on the Cherokee alphabet. So the weird squiggles you see in my doodles from now on are probably either legitimate Cherokee or my own alphabet. Yes, I write in my own alphabet. A lot, actually. I'm weird.

plein air is a pain in the keester

been doodling. not too much because i've been on the road or hiking waterfalls or wandering off trails down random embankments... and other nature-y things.
so who knew future supreme court justice oliver wendell holmes was such a foxy young man?
oh, doodled a zouave in there too. and did an awful watercolour of a mountain across from the mountain i was sitting on.

Every time I'd get into the swing of plein air, I'd either A) Have a gigantic bee decide to perch on my brush B) Have a biker dude come over and see what I was doing C) Look down at foot to see GIGANTIC FUZZY SPIDER crawling BETWEEN MY TOES or D) All of the above.

Plein air painting is a pain in the ass. Literally. I sat on a bee. :(

Civil War

I'm meandering south through Appalachia on a road trip. I've always been a total history buff and am currently in the area where most of the Civil War was fought. Today we went to Antietam, tomorrow we're checking out Manassas (Bull Run).
So yeah, angry union soldier. I'm doing some better sketches too, I swear. .. .. .

It'll be awhile

Hey guys. My computer needs some repairs, and as soon as I drop kick it into the shop, I'm leaving on a roadtrip. I have no clue when I'll be back, as we have no plans.

All I know is I'm finally going back to the Smoky mountains and Appalachia in general, the place where the two halves of my family came together.

I won't be posting for awhile. I'll still check around here and there because I have a smartphone. But hopefully when I come back, I'll have lotsa art and pictures of a place I love.

I hope summer's finding you all well, rested, and full of art. I know I'm full of it. haha.

Love y'all.
