Endings, beginnings, yep.

Hey y'all. I graduated! Got a BFA in Illustration with highest honors (3.81 gpa) from RIT! yayyy! and I get to start my new internship very soon. And move into a swag new apartment downtown in a couple weeks. and life... is hectic.. but amazing.

Today i spent the entire day in the Reporter office trying to help pull together the orientation issue. Simon Jones, Cassie Angerosa and her brother (an engineer who learned indesign in seconds) and I are blasting the Beatles and arting to death. We rock.

This ills are for that issue. I know I shouldn't technically post them until they're published, but dammit, that won't be for months, and by that time y'all will have forgotten about 'em. Or hey, early advertising.

today i've busted out three ills in about 7 hours or so, minus breaks. I. am. tired.
ah well, signing a lease tomorrow.

It's been a wild, sad, happy, wonderful, horrible, overall intense ride, RIT. I will miss a lot of people. I hugged my profs before walking the stage and almost cried. Those guys become family after 3 years of creative growth. But since I'm staying here in Roch for a year, I don't feel as sad. I'll see them yet :)

Long week

My computer has crashed. Dead. As I've been waiting for the harddrive to be erased and as we re-install everything, I drew this. I haven't drawn with just pencil in... Forever it feels like.

So, I'm really upset, and losing my mind, but gotta keep going.

I was doing some figure studies and then... she turned into a space lady with a helmet that's like a cross between bobba fett and leia... i do NOT know. Had no reference on the face... I'm getting a bit better on this make it up stuff.

Model was in METAL magazine, de invierno 2007. (it's a nice spanish fashion rag, i don't know if it still exists honestly)
At RIT we have a kid, Khoa Nguyen, who apparently did really well in Vietnam Idol. So, quick little illy for the Reporter. watercolour, pen.ink.

For Reporter. Dean of COLA just stepped down..... This is that guy and the provost.

Just downloaded CS5... I love it but haven't really delved into all its new features. Still just using it like I used CS3.

Guess I should get on some tutorials and see what I can do with this spiffy new engine!!! The illustration vehicle continues to roll....

Now, onto a marijuana illustration. And finishing that portrait of that skinny russian guy.

Me, tank/jet girl esque, on a yak/ram thing...

Aaaaand the three pieces the amazing Joi Ong and I collaborated on. Model is the lovely Gabi Ripka. I'm pretty proud of this. I painted the gore, Joi shot Gabi, and Gabi, Jena and I screamed a lot.

So... Fall quarter is (almost) over.

I need to figure out which style to stick to, to maybe possibly get a job someday.

I also plan to take photos of my friends (or have them take one if they're too far away) and then do acrylic portraits based off that, rather than using the gorgeous photos of steve mccurry.

It'll be so much more challenging as I'll be afraid to offend people. If you're willing to be painted, please let me know!

Hey y'all. Happy week ten to all my fellow quarter sufferers.

Top piece is a quick 45 minute acrylic scribble of a bloodstained afghanistani soldier photogged by the amazing Steve McCurry, who I'm obsessed with.

Then... Me with Pirate, my fav horse. Then... dead me with my demon horse. yayyy.

And finally...

PICK UP A REPORTER MAGAZINE THIS FRIDAY. Because.

The AMAZING Joi Ong and I collaborated for the cover/feature, about the body falling apart due to stress.

She took beautiful photos of Gabi Ripka, and then I drew horrible things over the pictures.

After it's published, I'll post full photos, but here's some super pixellated teasers for now.

EDIT- added another quick 40 minute acrylic painting. a girl! from herat, afghanistan, original photo taken by steve mccurry in 1992.

I'm getting more and more painterly/stroke-y... i think i like it.

For an article about Caster Semenya... or gender in sports. Just a quick one... took an hour. I did a watercolour/pen.ink version but i didn't like the way it looked so I just did a quick digital piece instead.

it's subtle. Looks like man, has a lady's bow. Ooh. Lola, lolololo loola..
