Sigh. Dead.

Man. Guys. I am NOT happy with this. Did not come out good at all. I kinda want to cry I'm that upset about the outcome.
But deadlines and illness pushed me to finish it anyways.

I hope/promise/pray I produce better stuff than this in the coming weeks. Fail.

I doubt I"ll fix it either, I'm pretty damn sick of looking at it.

Week Two.

hi 'gain. First portrait is of Denis Menochet, a beautiful french actor ( you can see him in Inglorious Basterds).

Second piece was done in class for sketchbook today... The prompt was "summer camp".
Well... Years ago I went to an aviation camp. My roommate was a girl named Ashley. We became very close friends and remained pen pals for years. (ah the days before facebook/myspace). Then, on my 12th (i believe) birthday, September 14th, I get an email from her telling how her mother, Wendy Faulkner, a vice president of AON life insurance, was killed in 9/11. She gave up her spot on one of the last elevators during the evacuation of the second tower to a pregnant woman and was in the stairwell (72nd floor) when the second plane hit. She was killed instantly.

This stuck with me for years, and I think of it every year not only with 911 but with my birthday as well. So this silly watercolour/pen/ink piece is Ashley and I playing with toy airplans, with two trees and smokey clouds... OH SYMBOLISM.

We lost touch eventually but years later I saw her again....

Yes, that's her. She was in a lot of reelection ads for W. Small world.

ANYWAYS.
others are more portraits and some figure drawing.

First week

First week of fall quarter is over. I have my plate full. Heaping, really. If I make it through alive, I myself will be surprised. Anyways, here's some in class sketches during anatomical figure drawing and some sketchbook entries for Chad's sketchbook class. The first theme is "your favorite thing" in your favorite media.

Well, I love faces. And I love using acrylic on moleskine. So yep. 3 so far, 2 to go. Using McCurry's fabulous work as reference.

crazy week ahead. will post if i can... but i turn 21 on Tuesday and will spend the end of the week enjoying my new legal privileges. (like making irish car bomb cupcakes).

Nightmares

So... for personal focus this quarter I'm going to do various nightmares/beasts.
These are just some pencil doodles I had fun with tonight during a frightful thunderstorm.

There's some AMAZING illustrators this year. I need to step up my game. Big time.

First one is just a funky ghost man.
Second one is a manananggal, a monster of the philippines known for separating the top half of her body from the bottom.

CIty Gal Still goin

still going. I think hair is one of the most fun/frustrating things to paint digitally. Oy.
Existing skyscrapers are super rudimentary right now.

LAST FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL TOMORROW.

in other words, i'll have a helluva time trying to find time to finish this.
